AREAS OF PRACTICE

Karen J. McPhee  is an associate with the law firm of Epstein, Turner & Song, P.C. Throughout her legal career, Ms. McPhee has represented management in all phases of labor and employment law.  Ms. McPhee began her legal career in 1988 at the law firm of Rushfeldt, Shelley & Drake, where she defended hospitals and doctors in wrongful termination and employment discrimination cases.  Between 1989 and 1997, Ms. McPhee continued her emphasis on employment law defense while practicing at Ivie, McNeil & Wyatt, Gartner & Young, and Garfield, Tepper, Epstein & Turner. 

Between 1997 and 2004, Ms. McPhee worked for Countrywide Home Loans as a Human Resources Compliance Officer.  Ms. McPhee was soon promoted to the company's senior management team as Senior Vice President, HR Compliance/Diversity.  During this period, Ms. McPhee worked closely with the Company's legal department in fulfilling her responsibilities to maintain compliance with federal and state employment laws.  While at Countrywide, Ms. McPhee also designed and conducted various HR compliance trainings, including, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Wage & Hour and Affirmative Action.

Ms. McPhee has been with Epstein, Turner & Song since February 2006, where she continues to advise and defend Management in all aspects of labor and employment law.

COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK

Mc. McPhee is committed to working on community projects.  Over the years, Ms. McPhee has served on various non-profit boards, including:  Rebuilding Together (formerly known as Christmas in April), Women in Film, Black Women Lawyers Association, and The Brentwood School.  Ms. McPhee currently sits on the board of Junior Achievement Southern California, and participates in the Light Up Mentoring Program.

EDUCATION AND MEMBERSHIPS

Ms. McPhee is a graduate from Sir George Williams University, Montreal, Canada (B. Commerce), the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada (post-graduate education degree), and UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles, California.  In addition, Ms. McPhee is a former California certified public accountant.  She is currently admitted to practice law before the California state court and numerous federal district and appellate courts.  Ms. McPhee is a member of the California Bar and the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.
